WHAT IS SOUP'S ON TROUPE?

WHO WE ARE—
New Theatre Group

for Silver Citizens

Lubbock theater buffs have formed The SOUP’S ON TROUPE, which features short dramatic works (a soupçon means a small bit) and echoes the classic West Texas invitation: “soup’s on; come on over.” The new cooperative group emphasizes the participation of seniors (50+) in arts production.

The Troupe performs in non-traditional venues—community centers, churches, fraternity halls, small theater spaces, etc. and is available for club, corporate, civic and other performances such as fund-raisers, etc. in both Lubbock and surrounding communities. Some hosts choose to serve soup as part of a dinner theater presentation. The SOUP’S ON TROUPE performances feature small casts, limited props, scenery, and minimal technical apparatus, yet provide professional quality theater to audiences.

“The Rose Trilogy” (renamed "A Rose is a Rose is a ____?")

by Dorey Schmidt

The LUBBOCK PREMIERE of Playwright Dorey Schmidt's new trilogy of short plays, "A Rose is a Rose is a ____?" has been cast and is now in rehearsal.
Former UIL director Judy Womack will direct "THE ASIAN ROSE CAFE" with cast members to be announced. "FOUR ROSES" and "ASHES TO ROSES" are also in production.
All three plays feature mature and experienced casts, with a sprinkling of younger actors for dramatic tension and contrast.
Three new one-act plays reference roses in plot, setting or suggestion. Suitable for ages 12+, these thoughtful bits of amusing drama for mature audiences will not offend sensibilities of seniors or families.
I. “Ashes to Roses”—A mature couple plays a “shell game” as they disagree over what to do with Daddy and his cat. 28 minutes.
II. “Four Roses”—Three women bridge players audition a new member for their group. 15 minutes.
III. “The Asian Rose Café”—Korean War vet is guided to reconciliation with alienated grandchild by a nosy waitress and a noisy chef offstage. 25 minutes.
